RE: Best Waste tote brand Recommendations

It will stop when the tank is full if you don't have the top cap off. Otherwise the waste water will run out. BUT....if you let it run until the tank is full, there will still be waste water in the hose...what do you do with that.? What you want to do, is carefully monitor the level in the tank and stop it while you still have room to drain the hose.
With my 32 Gal. transport, it will hold everything in my grey water tank, so I don't have to worry about overflow. No muss, no fuss. I just keep the tank in the back of my pickup (I have a cap/topper on my truck). I even keep it there between trips, I stand it on end at the front of the bed and hold it in place with some straps. Easy to get it in and out. I usually don't take it out unless I have something very large to carry or it's winter (then it goes in the trailer for a long winter's nap).

RE: Best Waste tote brand Recommendations

Never used the Thetford so I can't comment on it
I do have and use the 32? Gallon Barker and have been very pleased with it. Works great, no muss no fuss.
I have the 4 wheel model and I upgraded the rear tires/wheels (like a lot of folks do) with a couple of inexpensive pneumatic tires/wheels from Harbor Freight, really helps to reduce the noise and makes it easier to pull it by hand when load on the sand or through the woods. We have only had to use it for grey water as we never come close to filling our black tank. I never camp without it.

RE: In Today's L.A. Times: Writer's trip w/new Airstream

Thanks for the posting. Nice article.
I don't agree with his comment about being ignored by other "scowling" RV'ers on the road. I don't think it was because he was towign an Airstream. To me this seems to be the case no matter what type/brand of RV you have. Little acknowledgment seems to take place while on the highway. Although, in a pinch many of them will help you out if you have a problem.
I think the average, equivalent sized trailer is actually less than 1/2 the price of an Airstream. More like 1/3.
Nitpicks, still a pretty good article.

RE: Winter Honda 2000i storage planning

I always put stabil in my generator fuel, year round. During the winter I run it under load for a few minutes a month (I usually hook it up to my halogen light rack that I keep in the garage, puts a nice load on it). Never had any problems. I change the oil in the spring and are good to go.

RE: Any problems with leaving windows and vents cracked open?

I leave my crank outs open and the sliders closed, with my covered roof vent open. I think it is good to keep some air moving in the trailer when it is in storage.

RE: Dodge vs. GMC vs Ford 3500

They are all good trucks with their own pluses and minuses. If you are traveling on long trips and spending a lot of time in the truck I would focus on the interior and seat comfort. I think that is where you will find more difference between the makes.

RE: Un-Level Sites

I could deal with the unlevel site but not being that close to a camper cabin. Wow. I like more privacy when I camp.

RE: Camping Yard Sale/For Sale

It's funny that you posted this as I was thinking about trying to sell my generator at the campground, maybe just sit it in front of the truck with a for sale sign on it, nothing outlandish, just something low profile. Great captive audience and folks can check it out on the spot. The flip side is that I can understand why some CGs would not allow this as it could get out of hand.

RE: What to do at East Harbor State Park Ohio?

Had to post because we stayed at East Harbor the first night after we purchased out trailer. We bought it on ebay (new) from Terrytown in Grand Rapids. I thought East Harbor was a nice park and (not being from around the great lakes) was impressed by Lake Eire. As for things to do, I don't think Cedar Point is too far away, if you like that sort of thing. Maybe a tour of Marblehead lighthouse?

RE: when to step in

Personally if I was them I would have welcomed the advice. I always like getting tips from other RVer's, especially when starting out. I would have likely jumped in and offered advice to, some folks are just too bone-headed to take it.
What is with the rope lights, I don't understand some folks obsession to head out camping and then light the place up like mini Las Vegas. That's one reason we boondock a lot! But to each their own, if folks enjoy the lights, go for it.
It was a funny story, but the fact that they were burning pressure treated shows you were in a hopeless situation when it comes to giving advice!

RE: Need Advise On Selling My Fiver

I agree with Cat320, check ebay. Do a search for your particular type of unit, once the search is complete look at the menu on the left side and click on completed auctions, that should give you an idea of what they have been selling for (assuming that there are any of your units on ebay.

RE: Generator in the basement?

This goes beyond generator police, it's just plain stupid. Remember the folks that died at Indy this year, from CO put out by other peoples generators that got into their rig. This is just plain nuts.

RE: Equal-i-zer Installation Nightmare on our new TT

I don't think I would trust any dealer to set up an EQ hitch properly. Heck I wouldn't trust many of them to work on my trailer. It took me 4 years to find a decent shop to work on mine (an independent RV shop).
It takes a bit of time to set up a hitch and they don't like to spend it....only like to charge you for it. Just take your time and set it up per the instructions and you should be fine. I would find a local truck repair shop and see if they will torque it for you. I'll bet if you think about it you might even know someone who can do it for you. With a breaker bar and a cheater pipe you could get it as tight as it needs to be, at least until you can get your hands on a torque wrench in order to check it properly.

RE: Considering Chevy 2500 HD

Are you engaging it on a hard surface? That might have something to do with it. Personally I would be careful, once you move into the 3/4-1 ton range, the cost of parts / repairs jumps up like moving from a Honda to a Benz. It might not be as cheap or easy to fix as you think.
Good luck, I am very happy with my '03.

RE: 03 KZ Coyote 23CMS vs 01 Jayco 23B

An '01 for $10,500! Heck I only paid $11,750 for my '03 23D brand new! For an '01, a 7 year old trailer, personally I would be in the $5k range at best. Good luck in your search.

RE: RV EXTREME MAGAZINE

Good timing for me, I subscribed in March, $18.95 down the drain. I hope they enjoyed a beer on me. Last month they had some lame message on the phone about a merger and that everyone subscription would be extended. I knew it was over then.
I can understand them going out of business, but they likely knew it for a while and took folks money anyway. That makes them #$#%%^.
Kind of a bummer as it looked like a pretty good magazine compared to Trailer Life which is pretty lightweight. To bad someone can't do a Road&Track/Car&Driver/Automobile mag type of RV magazine. Oh well, I guess it won't be long until magazines go the way of the wind anyway.

RE: Verizon to At&t, should I switch for the iphone 3G

Thanks JorBill. I kind of figured that.
Because I work in the DC/Balto. corridor, I would have 3G available there out of the box. In my home area about 50 miles west of Balto/DC, 3G is supposed to be on line by the end of the July.
There are some areas around here up in the mountains that only have Verizon service. Because we mountain bike and camp in some of these areas, I am still considering Verizon too. Particularly for safety reasons when biking etc.
I looked at the LG Voyager, seems like a good phone, not as "cool" as the iphone, but not bad either, it would do the job on the Verizon network. It also has a real keypad which is a big plus in my book. It also seems to be a better "phone" from the reviews I have read and that is important to me.
Even though I am fairly "tech savvy" this whole cellphone thing makes my head spin. I swear I think you need a lawyer when you walk into one of these stores to figure out which plan/features to get. Plus whenever I go into a store they are so busy you feel like you in a herd of cattle. Especially the Verizon stores...AT&T usual is not as busy. At least not until July 11th!
For those of you with Verizon, do any of you access the web? What phone do you use and how do you like it? I would like web access to check my gmail and keep up with news and such when I am on the road/camping. I don't need (I guess you would call) push/POP email such as on a smartphone (I guess).
Of course, I still love the iphone. PERFECT WORLD: CDMA iphone! I'll bet it happens in a couple of years. Til then, still trying to figure it out!
Would be interested on some Verizon web phones/experiences.
Thanks
Denman

Verizon to At&t, should I switch for the iphone 3G

Being an apple user I have lusted over the iphone for the past year. Now that the kinks are being worked out with the new 3G phone, I am tempted to switch. I will make my final decision after the phones are out and the reviews are in.
I was with At&t a few years ago and was happy, I only switched because I could get a better discount through my employer. However they are now also offering equivalent discounts for AT&T.
My 2 year contract is going to be up around the time the new 3G iphone comes out 7/11/08. I priced plans out today and they are both similar on their pricing on their family share plans (I have 5 phones on my plan FYI). I would only pay $30 extra for the data service on the iphone. Not too bad in my book (well it could be cheaper)to carry the Internet around your the pocket (at least in the coverage areas, which are very good here in the DC area).
I have thought about aircards, but I don't want to lug a computer around with me etc.
It seems like AT&T has pretty good coverage, but not as good as Verizon's. I am just wondering if I will miss that. I never thought it was lacking before and would assume it is even better now. There is only one campground we go to where you cannot use an AT&T phone (Cunningham Falls in MD).
Yes I could get a Verizon phone like the LG Voyager with a data plan. But these phones just don't compare to the iphone IMHO. To me they are all wannabe compromises, at least for now (maybe you have a different opinion....would love to here about your experiences).
Curious as to your take.
